The Coming AI Revolution

Having worked in the IT industry for over 30 years, and in my current role managing an IT Managed Service Provider, I’m seeing dramatic changes I’ve never seen before. I’m utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) extensively to automate processes for us and our clients. We obviously still need humans, but the capabilities of AI agents are very real. Don’t take the AI and robotics revolution for granted. The advances we’re seeing are extremely dramatic—this is like the Industrial Revolution, electricity, the personal computer revolution, and the Internet all rolled into one. This technology will change the world dramatically, hopefully for the better, but there is massive and inevitable change coming in the next few years, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride—especially for those who aren’t utilizing it now. If you aren’t currently using AI to become more efficient and as a force multiplier—especially at your job—you will get run over by competitors who are, during this period of transition.

Even if you are embracing it, it’s becoming obvious that the vast majority of jobs will be able to be automated within 10 years. Whether or not they will be remains to be seen, but the capability will certainly exist, especially with robotics progressing at the rate it is. The continued economic viability of using humans as workers won’t be logical in many cases. This will turn the economy as we know it upside down. We’ll need to be very creative, economically, to survive in the not-too-distant future. On the flip side, there will be more resources and capacity than ever before in human history. All the drudgery and work that humans don’t like to do, they simply won’t have to do. A household robot in the next few years—possibly costing as little as an inexpensive car—will be able to maintain a home: clean, cook, perform maintenance, do yard work, and even handle advanced plumbing, electrical, construction, or other tasks. It will order your groceries and goods and keep everything stocked.  It will maintain your vehicles.  You can enlist it to perform tasks that generate revenue, such as manufacturing or other pursuits. New vehicles will be completely autonomous. We will be entering a world of incredible abundance and freedom. There will be massive economic shifts, and humanity will, for the first time in recorded history, no longer have to expend hard work and precious time to survive. Personally, I believe this will usher in a golden age for humanity, where we are freed up to learn, grow spiritually, and engage in the pursuits we’re passionate about.

AI is already advancing mathematics and science, and creating new materials and medical innovations that humans have never produced before. It’s innovating at a pace never before seen in recorded history, and I’ve seen it do it first hand. Couple these revolutionary advances with breakthroughs in fusion energy and quantum computing that are already happening, and we have the recipe for extreme abundance and freedom.  Basic goods and services and even utilities will become less and less expensive, ultimately to the point that they are almost free.

That said, this transition is almost certainly not going to be smooth. To better prepare, in collaboration with ChatGPT-5, I generated this list loosely based on OpenAI’s latest research regarding AI capabilities versus humans in these areas. Right now, in many fields, AI can perform tasks better than humans perhaps 40–80% of the time, and those numbers are rapidly rising—expanding not only in capability but also across occupations. I’ve used AI first hand to knock out relatively complex systems engineering tasks that would have taken me days, in less than 45 minutes. The same goes for code and application development to accomplish complex real-world tasks. This is not hyperbole: I’m seeing it accomplish work so quickly and efficiently that the AI process is leaving humans (including me) in the dust. It would make no sense for anyone to hire me—or any other human—to perform those tasks when they can be so easily and cheaply automated. If you think your occupation is safe, think again. See the list below: a relatively comprehensive set of occupations, the year during which it’s expected that AI will replace more than 50% of employees in that field, and why the role is susceptible to automation. I don’t want people to be disheartened—I think this ultimately leads to a world of peace, abundance, and freedom—but it will likely be a bumpy transition getting from here to there. In the meantime, I recommend taking steps to make your specialized human skills and experience valuable to employers and clients. If you can set yourself apart from the pack, you’ll likely be one of the last in your field to be susceptible to automation. Remember: the dates below mark when over 50% in that occupation will be replaced through AI automation. That doesn’t mean the entire occupation disappears; there will be people with valuable, unique skills who hold on much longer—hopefully until we better understand how we will all fit into this new world.
